Scholarship Program Overview

Aikido of Northwest Kansas offers a scholarship program through the Aikido International Foundation (an Aikido non-profit entity–website: http://aikidofoundation.org/) to students at our school. This scholarship program covers up to 3/4 of a student’s tuition to attend Aikido of Northwest Kansas, though financial need is not necessary to apply and all scholarships are competitive.

It is the intent of the scholarship program to develop Aikido students of character who will give back to their local communities. Students may be in the program not due to financial need, but due to the sincere desire to develop as individuals of character. Scholarship recipients are held to a higher standard of service to the dojo and to a higher standard of leadership both on and off the mat. On the mats, students are expected to be examples to others by listening and training hard. Off the mat, students are expected to make sure that the needs of other students and the dojo are met (for example making sure that there are paper towels in the bathrooms, or if another student needs to sit down offering that student a chair). Ultimately, it is our hope that the scholarship program would not only help those who could otherwise not afford classes to train but also that it would help improve the overall dojo community and help train a new generation of Aikido leaders.

For Those Interested in Receiving a Scholarship

To begin your application process, please send an email to [email protected] stating your interest in receiving a scholarship to attend Aikido of Northwest Kansas. We will review your email and send you an application with further details on it. Scholarships are competitive–financial need IS taken into account, but it is NOT necessary to demonstrate a substantial financial need to receive a scholarship. It is more important that a candidate show their desire to learn Aikido and willingness to serve the community and the dojo. Scholarship recipients will have a photo taken and will be asked to submit a small bit of information to be published on the website for donors to see who they are supporting.

For Potential Sponsors/Donors (Businesses or Groups)

We always appreciate any business or entity helping out the youth and other members of our local community by providing financial support for scholarships at Aikido of Northwest Kansas. As a thank you, we list your business or entity on our website and in several of our other advertising mediums and encourage local individuals to support your business. Businesses and entities can be recognized as Sponsors (any amount), Bronze Sponsors ($250 or more), Silver Sponsors ($500 or more), Gold Sponsors ($1,000 or more), or Platinum Partners (Platinum Partners can only be listed by making truly substantial contributions of time, money, or other resources to the scholarship program; those in this category deserve truly great thanks). Corporate sponsors should know that the Aikido International Foundation will take a 15% administration fee out of their donation, but the entire rest of the donation will go to the Aikido Student Scholarship Program at Aikido of Northwest Kansas. These monies are used to provide scholarships for students to attend regular classes, for scholarships for special camps and seminars, and for other financial needs (we may buy dojo practice weapons that students who could not afford practice weapons of their own may check out to practice with, for instance). To donate, simply click the ‘Donate Now button below’ and follow the instructions. Please contact us with any questions about the donation form and/or process!

For Potential Sponsors/Donors (Private Individuals)

We do keep a public list of our sponsors so that scholarship recipients can know who is supporting them and express their thanks to donors; it also helps encourage scholarship recipients to work harder, knowing that such individuals are behind them. Private donors will be listed on this website so that they can receive their recognition AND so that their donation can motivate scholarship recipients. Since the Aikido International Foundation is a non-profit entity, individuals can use their donations as a charitable giving tax deduction. The Aikido International Foundation will take a 15% administration fee, but the entire rest of the donation will go towards the Aikido Student Scholarship Program at Aikido of Northwest Kansas. To donate, simply click the ‘Donate Now button below’ and follow the instructions. Please contact us with any questions about the donation form and/or process!
