Instructor Information for NW KS Jiu Jitsu
Matt Chun

Matt has been involved in grappling and martial arts that started with Taekwondo and wrestling as a youth and then Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in college. Matt has trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the past 13 years in both gi (formal uniform) and no-gi (active wear) disciplines all around the U.S. including Hawaii, Idaho, Utah, Kansas, Virginia, California and Colorado.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling focused art that does not allow for striking in organized matches, however emphasis is placed on defending from strikes in self-defense focused classes.
Matt uses an ecological approach to teaching that places the emphasis on the student to apply their individual attributes to self-defence and martial arts training through positional scenarios and games. While a background to martials arts may be beneficial, BJJ can be enjoyed by virtually everyone. BJJ is a dynamic and growing sport and has a place in it for every level of fitness and experience.
Matt is also a licensed physical therapist, trained in first aid care, and is CPR certified. Matt lives in Hays, KS with his wife and 2 small children.

“I hope to bring exposure to such a niche sport for every type of person ranging from elite athletes to fresh off the couch individuals, through the tutelage of our head instructor Matt, in a fun, safe, and encouraging environment. BJJ is a sport that you will find very fulfilling, empowering, and stimulating.”
